April is a time for remembering, healing, and reconciliation. Winga Myamly Reconciliation Group, the Aboriginal community and supporting service providers invite all interested residents to attend the Appin Massacre memorial service. The service will be held at the Cataract Dam picnic ground and a sausage sizzle lunch will be available. The ceremony is to remember the Dharawal people who perished in the massacre in 1817.
Please note: the memorial service involves a short walk to the site. Remember to wear appropriate footwear, bring a hat, sunscreen and bottled water. Due to limited seating you’re welcome to bring a fold up chair if needed.
At 10am on Monday 19 April, Campbelltown City Council will also hold a memorial flag raising ceremony in the forecourt of the Campbelltown City Council administration building. This is to remember those who perished and to show their commitment to reconciliation. RSVP’s are essential for the flag raising ceremony.
