Discover all that shines in the night sky and gaze on the moon, planets, nebulae and galaxies, when you visit the observatory on one of their public viewing nights.
Located at Western Sydney University Campbelltown Campus, these family friendly evenings are run by the Macarthur Astronomical Society in conjunction with Astrophysicist and Observatory Director, Dr Ragbir Bhathal.
The observatory is used for research and is the home of the Australian Optical SETI (OZOSETI) Project. It is the only dedicated optical SETI project in the Southern Hemisphere. It is searching for nanosecond laser pulses from outer space with very sensitive and sophisticated equipment.
“Established in 2000, Campbelltown Rotary Observatory is an excellent example of an innovative science partnership between Western Sydney University, the community and industry/business,” said Dr Bhathal.
“It is an exciting scientific and educational resource for the community, science teachers, and schools. It complements local libraries and Arts Centre by providing a scientific and educational experience.”
