We asked our staff to share their ideas for the perfect school holiday adventure with their families. Here’s what Pan is getting up to with his nephew.
My rambunctious eight-year-old nephew is spending three days of the October school holidays with me and his grandmother in Campbelltown. So, how will we keep our sanity intact, you may ask? Luckily, Campbelltown is full of fun places to zap that excess energy, along with plenty of natural spaces to calm his little soul and keep him curious.
First up, he is keen to compare the new flying fox at Koshigaya Park with the one closer to his inner-city home. I already know which one will come out on top! To celebrate, I’ll reward him with his favourite salmon sushi from Sushi Hub at Campbelltown Mall. Not biased at all! We might follow that with a game of giant chess at Campbelltown Library, just a 10-minute walk away, if I’m in the mood to lose to a kid in such a public fashion.
No doubt one evening will be spent upholding what he calls the “tradition of fun” at Kingpin’s arcade and laser tag at Macarthur Square. We’ll take turns competing and collaborating on various games to earn as many points as possible and score the goodies he has his eye on. Afterwards, we’ll wrap up the night with some serious contemplation of delicious flavours at The Scoop Artisan Gelato nearby.
On our last day, we’ll grab our binoculars and head to Smiths Creek Reserve in search of birds and koalas. It’s the perfect way to recharge our batteries before he heads home, no doubt armed with a brand-new to-do list for his next visit.
