We’re celebrating 200 years of Campbelltown, and a large part of that history is sport, in particular Rugby League and Campbelltown Stadium.
Did you know Campbelltown Stadium was originally opened as Orana Park in 1970? Orana is an Aboriginal word meaning “welcome”. In 1987 it became the home ground to the much loved West Magpies Rugby League team. Then in the year 2000, the team merged and became the Wests Tigers.

Two players who have been with the Wests Tigers almost from the beginning and are much loved by their Campbelltown fans, recently played their final game for the club. Over 200 games in fact, star second-rower Chris Lawrence and flamboyant five-eighth Benji Marshall. There were definitely a few tears shed in Campbelltown last night for these two Wests Tigers legends.
We celebrate not only our past, but also our future. In December 2018 the FFA announced that South West Sydney would have it’s own A-League club playing out of Campbelltown Stadium, the Macarthur Bulls Football Club. For those unaware, the Hyundai A-League is the highest-level professional men’s soccer league in Australia. The 2020/21 season is expected to kick off in December 2020.
